Project Explanation

Qandidates is a hiring platform tailored for IT professionals. It allows candidates to create anonymous profiles based on their job preferences while providing recruiters with tools to screen and connect with candidates directly. The goal was to redesign the platform’s web application and informational website, focusing on usability, scalability, and user engagement.

Business needs & problem statement

Recruiters struggle to find skilled IT professionals, and candidates often face generic and irrelevant job offers. The existing platform had outdated features, lacked focus on user needs, and didn’t adequately highlight its unique value. The redesign aimed to address these issues by creating a user-friendly and efficient product that serves both IT professionals and recruiters.

Stakeholders

The key stakeholders included IT professionals seeking discreet job opportunities, recruiters needing efficient tools to find talent, and the internal design, development, and product teams ensuring alignment with business goals.

Time-frame

The project spanned three months, involving research, prototyping, and iterative feedback cycles to deliver a polished platform within a tight timeline.

My role

As Design Lead, I directed the design process, refined wireframes, defined MVP features, and collaborated with developers to ensure a seamless user experience.

Results

The redesigned platform achieved significant success, helping over 100 candidates secure new roles within the first six months. Recruiter satisfaction increased, with a 40% improvement in search efficiency due to enhanced filtering tools. Candidate sign-ups rose by 30%, driven by features like anonymity and tailored job offers. These metrics highlight the platform’s impact on streamlining hiring processes and creating a user-centric experience.

To understand the challenges faced by IT professionals and recruiters, identify gaps in competing platforms, and ensure our designs align with user needs and market expectations.

Surveys

The purpose of the surveys was to gain insights into the job-switching behavior of IT professionals and the challenges recruiters face in hiring them. We wanted to understand the needs and preferences of both groups in the hiring process to better inform the product’s design.

User interviews

The purpose of the interviews was to dive deeper into the workflows and frustrations of both recruiters and IT professionals. We aimed to capture detailed feedback on how they currently approach job searching and recruitment, and where the pain points lie in their processes.

Competitor Analyis

The purpose of the competitor analysis was to examine the strengths and weaknesses of existing platforms in the market. We sought to identify areas where we could differentiate our product and ensure it met both candidate and recruiter needs in a more effective way.

  • No existing platform effectively balances anonymity for candidates and usability for recruiters.
  • Many competitor platforms have outdated designs and limited IT-specific features.

The research confirmed the need for a platform that empowers IT professionals to manage job opportunities discreetly and equips recruiters with intuitive tools to filter and connect with candidates. The next steps included defining user goals, ideating features, and prototyping solutions.

Ideating Solutions

During ideation, we focused on solving user pain points with innovative solutions. Prototypes included enhanced candidate profiles showcasing key skills and conditions, recruiter filters for saving criteria, and anonymity tools to protect user privacy. Usability testing with IT professionals and recruiters informed key refinements: simplifying navigation, improving messaging tools, and optimizing filters for better efficiency and accuracy.

When candidates join the platform, they remain anonymous until they choose to reveal their identities. Recruiters can send messages to candidates with job offers, and candidates can decide whether or not to share their contact details if they are interested in the opportunity.
